Scope and Sequence
One or two strategies are covered in each of the five units. All units except the first are three weeks long. New strategies are introduced during Weeks 1 and 2, and review of all the previously taught strategies occurs during Week 3.

- Students will identify texts as narrative or expository.
- Students will use their knowledge of text structure to understand what they read and remember the important parts of it.

- Students will use their prior knowledge to make sense of what they read.
- Students will make inferences and cite the clues from the text that support their inferences.

- Students will read with questions in mind, gathering text clues to answer them.
- Students will make predictions about what they are going to read and note whether their predictions are correct as they read on.

- Students will use their knowledge of text structure and visual clues to help them determine what is important in a text.
- Students will summarize by identifying the most important information and briefly restating it in their own words.

- Students will monitor their comprehension and use fix-ups when they don't understand the text.
- Students will use a variety of strategies to understand what they read and remember the important parts.
